Game Description

Eternal Exodus is a 2D monster-catching RPG set in the Afterlife.

It brings something to the monster-catching genre that it's sorely been missing: a gripping, pageturner of a story.

While other monstertaming games' stories begin and end at "the player tries to become the best trainer in the world," Eternal Exodus goes in a different direction, reminiscent of the deep and thoughtful games from the golden era of JRPGs in the 90s and early 2000s.

The story explores themes of metaphysics, free will, social contract theory, and much more.

This game also features much richer gameplay mechanics than found in your typical monstertamer. Inspired by the "press-turn" system found in the Shin Megami Tensei games, you'll earn extra turns in combat by exploiting enemies' weaknesses. But what makes that system even more interesting is that you can learn abilities through your craftable weapons and armor (ala Final Fantasy IX). These two systems, along with the fusion mechanics, converge to make a unique experience unlike any other game, as you can customize your party to unimaginable levels.

Making the world feel truly alive and immersive, you'll find a bunch of minigames and sidequests along the way, all while rocking out to a 30+-track original soundtrack inspired by the works of Nobuo Uematsu, Shoji Meguro, Yasunori Mitsuda, and others.

Story & Setting

In Eternal Exodus, you're dead.

You just woke up in the Afterlife, and instead of rolling clouds or fiery brimstone, you're greeted with a world full of its own religious factions and political turmoil.

A medicinal substance known as "Ether" has recently been discovered, which allows one to live forever in this new realm. "The Crown," a pseudogovernmental organization that refines it is willing to give you it freely, so long as you work tirelessly in their factories and lay down your weapons.

But is Ether a blessing or a curse?

And what else is the Crown hiding about the nature of reality?

Eternal Exodus explores deep philosophical themes about the nature of existence, reincarnation, psychology, metaphysics, and ethics while maintaining the fun and engaging gameplay that defines the monster-catching genre.
